You cannot use “one-size-fits-all” approach with background checks. The mandatory employment verifications differ with every job role and sector. It is highly advised that some industries conduct specific searches based on the roles they are hiring for.

These specific checks along with the standard entry-level background (i.e., criminal background check) are mandatory to make well-informed hiring decisions.

Implementing a thorough screening program is important for a regulated sector like financial services. Employers need to conduct comprehensive background checks due to the sensitivity and responsibilities given to employees in this industry. Whether regulated by the FCA or PRA there are different requirements depending on the role the applicant will be undertaking, this ranges from unregulated roles, to certified roles and roles under the SMCR (Senior Managers and Certification Regime).
